Chuck:

I was able to get in touch with Bob Dalziel to ask a few questions about his 6 Metre Whaler. He was very helpful, and as it turned out sounds as though he had reached a point of needing a boost of motivation himself, so we served each others purposes well.

Anyway, our communication resulted in a few lovely images. I asked his permission to forward them on to you and he approved. Some of the images you have no doubt seen before, but they are included for continuity.

The new ones are sterling though. Bob has done wonderful work and the result is a great looking little ship. Consequently my apprehensions have melted away after speaking with him. Don't you just love the Internet.

Bob's Letter:

Hi chip, Thanks for all the compliments, I can't get my head through the door anymore. Yes you can send any or all pictures you want to Chuck, He would probably enjoy them. I've been meaning to but just to many things going on. I wouldn't worry about all your frames. I know what John was referring to and that worked out fine. What I was referring to was the notch for the stringer in the last frame behind the motor well as seen in picture #005 that's with these attachments. The other pictures are of the mock-up for the mast /boom and bow sprit. John designed a beautiful boat with graceful lines and stable beam. I looked for a year and a half at different Ideas and decided on the "Whaler" and haven't regretted it.

As far as being seaworthy the Way the seats and frames are put together, all lateral forces from wind or waves should be handled nicely. On my boat I will add a little more reinforcing where I will have the shrouds attach to the chain plates. I wish you lived closer, but if I ever get to the east coast I'll be sure to look you up. I live just east of Seattle in a town called Redmond. Big on Microsoft around here. Lots of water here and lots of places to go adventuring. Let me know how it's going and stay in touch.

Peace Bob
