Just to fan the flames, I am the proud owner of a copy of Percy's 'Small Boats & Sailing', a delighful book containing full plans and building instructions for 'Pete','Corrib' and 'Wensum'. In far off days of my youth I owned both 'Gremlin' & 'Goblin'sailng dinghys

In the '60s I lived in South America where some British missionaries put me on to Blandford's books. I ordered "Canoes and Canoeing" and "Small Boats and Sailing." I eventually built 2 copies of "Pete" the 6' punt as an experiment. Later built a Clark Craft 16' square end canoe. When I returned to the States, my son built a Blandford style canoe/kayak that was 16' long, had frames and stringers and covered with rubberized canvas.

Good show, Alistair. I'd never thought about it, but my local library system has no less than 53 books by this fellow, almost all on practical do-it-yourself topics. Definitely a guy who knows his stuff.

This one is going to be a lot of fun finding and reading. I'm no stranger to Percy Blandford as in the '60s I bought a copy of his "Canoes and Canoeing" which are basically what we (Americans) call "kayaks". A friend borrowed the book and built one which worked just as stated in the book, it went together without a hitch.

Alistair's right - this is a great book. My only complaints are that it's hard to find and that it's by no means long enough!
