Kevin Walsh Bio

You should be cautioned against believing much of anything I have to say about building, tools, boats and sailing. I am by profession a programmer living in Gilbert, Arizona, which as you may or may not know, has little to do with boats. I have three children, Carmen, Megan and Sean, and one granddaughter, Hailey. My wife BJ and I live with our son Sean, currently sixteen years old and, distressingly, driving.

While I did spend twelve years in the Navy from 1975 to 1987, it wasn't until 1993 that I discovered sailing and boats. I was wrangling withinsomnia during a particularly stressful time at work and spent a great deal of time watching Australian Rules Football and Chainsaw Racin at 2am on ESPN. One night I watched with utter fascination as a sailboat race was run in an olympic-sized swimming pool with huge fans mounted along one wall. The boats were actually more like one-man kyaks with a main sail and a jib, and the contestants had to negotiate a series of pylons placed at various points in the pool. The sight of these men defly maneuvering their boats in and around these pylons struck at something deep within me and I've never been the same since.
